Historian

As a Historian I have spent the past decade studying the life of David Stone (1770-1818), the fifteenth Governor of North Carolina (1808-1810). I assisted in the research for the 2011 reinterpretation of Stone’s home, Hope Plantation, in Windsor, NC. This project allowed for a better telling of the stories of the lives of both the Stone family and the enslaved peoples owned by the Stones. I have transcribed and edited the Governor’s Letter Books for David Stone’s two terms as Governor of North Carolina. I have also researched women’s education during the Colonial and Federal periods. I am particularly interested in the planter-class young ladies from North Carolina who were sent to the Moravian Female Academy in Bethlehem, PA, which included two of David Stone’s daughters.
